Norderney is situated in a world natural heritage. Last year was declared the Wadden Sea off Holland and Germany, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Denmark rejected the award for fear of negative consequences from the economy. Can now be proud of the Wadden Sea in a series with the Grand Canyon, the Great Barrier Reef, Kilimanjaro and the Galapagos island of call. The leaders find it a bit difficult with the new affiliation, no one really knows how to handle it.
